The Easiest Way to Create Oracle Instance for Ellipse

Below is the step-by-step how to create an oracle instance for Ellipse from existing oracle standby instance:

1.      Copy datafiles and redolog files from the source machine to target machine

2.      Create directory reflecting installation structure.

3.      Copy / create initellprd.ora at $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory and adjust to current installation. If needed, create symbolic link to that file.

4.      Change oracle sid by executing: . oraenv and then choose the appropriate instance

5.      Create password file by executing: orapwd file=pwdfile password=passwd (this is password for sysdba).

6.      Create entry at: /etc/oratab, with format: [oracle_instance]:[oracle_home]:N

7.      Execute:

sqlplus “/ as sysdba”

SQL> startup nomount;

SQL> alter database mount standby database;

SQL> alter database activate standby database;

SQL> shutdown immediate;

SQL> startup;

That’s all in my mind buffer.
